Cheryl Schlote – CMF
Certified Mastectomy Fitter for Scarlet’s Unmentionables clients

Cheryl started fitting in 1994 at a local Orthotic & Prosthetic shop that worked out of the U of I Hospitals and Clinics. She did fittings for about 5 years on staff there. Cheryl has taken a variety of classes over the past years in order to keep up with prostheses and bra design and fitting. Part of the advanced coursework included Lymphedema concerns.

At the time Cheryl started fitting, it was not required and rarely encouraged to be a certified fitter. In 2006, however, the credentialing programs (American Board of Orthotics (ABC) and BOC) started adopting the term “certified” fitters and designed the credentialing protocol. Certified Mastectomy Fitters are qualified to provide and/or supervise assessment, treatment plan development and implementation, follow-up and practice management of people using external breast prostheses, and post-mastectomy services.

CMFs are recognized professionally as having completed a rigorous education and training program that satisfies industry standards. Cheryl is certified with the Board of Certification/Accreditation, International (BOC).
